Our first grade students have been playing many different percussion instruments in music class this month. They've been exploring each individually through movement and music over the past few lessons. This week, they are using all of these instruments to add texture to a story called "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything". Each student (and their instrument) has a specific job in telling our story. This activity takes focus, cooperation and self control. We added a theme to go along with our story that the class can sing and play on xylophone. This new melodic piece lets them add even more expression to the story. They can change the tempo of their playing as the action in our story increases. Our students feel so proud when we put all the parts together!
