1st graders have had a wonderful start to the year in music class. They spend each day singing, dancing, moving and playing! We focus a lot on finding and keeping a steady beat at this point in the year as it is an essential skill for music making. Their learning includes responding to music through movement. We also spend time learning new games and dances that require partner work. Students practice how to find a partner and discuss how to be a good partner to another student. This work promotes inclusivity and community within the group while also helping students practice flexibility and independence. In the game shown here, students love the surprise of finding out who their next partner will be when they jump and turn to face a new friend.
