First graders have been playing, singing and chanting games like "Rig A Jig Jig" and Pumpkin Patch that help them develop steady beat, sing in head voice, and move with purpose to music. In addition, these games provide lots of opportunity for students to develop social skills and flexible thinking. Students have also been working on hearing and identifying rhythmic patterns using quarter notes, eighth notes and rests. Here, students are collaborating with partners to transfer the melody of the song "Apple Tree" to a scale using the pitches Sol, La and Mi. Ask your child to sing this for you!
